WHIRLWIND

We were standing in the middle of a whirlwind
trying to keep our feet on the ground
there were maps and papers all across the table
some of them had marks to be found - yeah,
some of them had clues to be found

Then we came across a man who would be righteous
and righteous was the name of the game
he was surrounded by a gang of freedom fighters
but no-one ever told us his name - no,
no one ever told us his name.

we were huddled in backroom where they organised the partners and
they gave us a number to call
and I remember you
exactly (as you do)
and wondered when you knew
we would be saved

We were standing in the middle of a whirlwind

Then a truck arrived to take us to a safe house
somewhere we would never be found
but they kicked us all out just beyond the border
told us to go deep underground - yeah
told to go on underground

when we surfaced we were standing by the quayside
staring at a row of broken boats
they were making up the crew to sail at high tide
and you and I were press ganged by a vote - yeah
you and I we lost by just one vote

so we piled onto that frigate that was never meant for sea
although the captain was a man of the world
and I remember you

and wondered when you knew
we would be saved
