about

Written and recorded in 2007, this version of "Song For A Soldier" was only ever intended to be a demo. However, after several requests to make the song public it was released to iTunes in 2013. It was my response to the jingoism that was rising following terrorist attacks in London.

lyrics

SONG FOR A SOLDIER

Lays her head beside him
His perfect face in her hands
Teary words to a sleepy boy
She turns out the light
She cries through the night
That there is no world
Worth fighting, dying for.

In a bed of sand and fury
He lays his head down one last time
Drifting in and out of freedom
The boys go in
But the boys won’t sing
That there is no world
Worth fighting, dying for.

And the boys go in
But the boy won’t sing
That there is no world
Worth fighting, dying for.
