After spending the summer building a new studio, Simon has started work on his next solo album - “WOOD AMONGST THE TREES”.
A single “WITHOUT YOU” is released on 14th September 2018.
Simon brings his trademark soaring vocal style and quirky lyrics to a simple love song; sung with the maturity that a certain age brings - but with no less of the passion of a younger man. There’s something very special and crazily intimate about a love song delivered from a life of experience - think of Joni Mitchell’s re-working of “Both Sides Now”…
The album will be purely acoustic, just guitar & voice, no band, no big production. A return to Simon’s acoustic roots, featuring a lot of finger-style playing.
Simon studied classical guitar in the 80s, but the groundwork to his finger-style should be credited to a teacher from Bournemouth - H.James Sherring, a banjo and guitar player who often appeared on BBC Radio broadcasts in the 1920s. Simon took lessons from Sherring at 17 years old, only recognising the true value of his teaching - with its focus on technique - years later.
