THE VALENTINES

They met in October by Valentines Day they were wed
perfectly suited in madness to New York they fled
To the Lower East Side
shone like diamonds inside
what a glorious life - to be had

For three golden years the Valentines lived life as art
and you'd never believe for one moment that these two would part
In the years yet to be
they'd struggle to free
broken hearts broken dreams from despair
as she drowned out her pain
to a chorus of blame
"when I needed you most - you weren't there”

he said "I’ve struggled I've worked hard - I’ve built us a home
now you say you won't stay if I leave you alone -
I can't sing to these four walls
I need to be out in the real world"

Meanwhile back in New York this story was yet to be told
The Valentines played like the innocent children they'd hold
In the years yet to be
when they'd struggle to keep
life’s sweet memories turning sad
She said "we're much older you see - so why can't you be -
satisfied with the dreams that we had?"

she said "while you were out seeking fortune and fame
I fell into the arms of a man it's a shame
but remember I told you I'd find someone else to amuse me."

They met in October by Valentine’s day they were wed.
