THE VALENTINES They met in October by Valentines Day they were wed perfectly suited in madness to New York they fled To the Lower East Side shone like diamonds inside what a glorious life - to be had For three golden years the Valentines lived life as art and you'd never believe for one moment that these two would part In the years yet to be they'd struggle to free broken hearts broken dreams from despair as she drowned out her pain to a chorus of blame "when I needed you most - you weren't there” he said "I’ve struggled I've worked hard - I’ve built us a home now you say you won't stay if I leave you alone - I can't sing to these four walls I need to be out in the real world" Meanwhile back in New York this story was yet to be told The Valentines played like the innocent children they'd hold In the years yet to be when they'd struggle to keep life’s sweet memories turning sad She said "we're much older you see - so why can't you be - satisfied with the dreams that we had?" she said "while you were out seeking fortune and fame I fell into the arms of a man it's a shame but remember I told you I'd find someone else to amuse me." They met in October by Valentine’s day they were wed. Words and Music Simon Scardanelli © 2006 Musica Scardanelli

They Dance 03:06
THEY DANCE They dance through – a world away from anything They dance through – a world away from anything But Odysseys are gone, they say you dance alone Alone But all your words are gone, they say you dance, they say you dance Alone We stand here, back to the wind, again And reach for the sky For the weary fall down and Nothing really - nothing really changes at all We dance through the night away from everyone We dance through……….the night……away…… From everyone……we dance alone. LET THERE BE A PLACE All’s quiet in the dead of night Everything’s come at last We’ve learnt to recognise the signs Dark days and an icy wind Blows the candle out And the well of hope is running dry Oh lord let there be a place Sweet child let there be a place Oh love let there be a place for gold All along the shoreline The guards are running home Every one of them once had a dream all eyes on the second man, waiting in the wings but the age of reason’s gone Oh lord let there be a place Sweet child let there be a place Oh love let there be a place for gold I was standing on the corner Of revelation row I heard an angel whisper I heard a trumpet blow If there really is a heaven Then why can’t someone show me oh Oh lord let there be a place Sweet child let there be a place Oh love let there be a place for gold Fear breeds dreadful lies Religion loses faith Love dies in the face of what will be A quiet voice and a steady hand Could bring this ship around But it seems it’s not to be. Oh lord let there be a place Sweet child let there be a place Oh love let there be a place for gold All’s quiet in the dead of night Everything’s come at last Words and Music © 2005 Simon Scardanelli/Musica Scardanelli

She Comes 05:59
SHE COMES She comes through the ether Wakes me from a place where I forgot to dream She saves me She loves me Yes and we stand on the edge of everything We dive in And we fall in I know there's something going on I know there's something going on She moves Oh so slowly She takes me To a place where I can breathe again She breaks me and then she makes me I know there's something going on I know there's something going on Words and Music © 2006 Simon Scardanelli/Musica Scardanelli

WHEN YOU"RE LYING When you’re lying I can tell Avoid the questions So very well A change of subject “It’s time to sleep” you know pillow talk like this will only make us weep. I’ve been trying To find a way Give you the freedom To want to stay But I’m outnumbered I’m obsolete And all this pointless pillow talk will only Make us weep You’ve been trying To brave it out But you can’t hide now Cos I’ve found out When was the moment That you knew That you and I are facing life From a different point of view When was the moment That you knew That you and I are facing life From a different point of view Words & Music © 2006 Simon Scardanelli/Musica Scardanelli

RISKY BUSINESS I sat beneath these years Walked beneath these skies Tasted the words of people I met on the way I believe in the sea I believe in the sea It’s a serious business I need these distractions Retail therapy Bogus gods Wholesale messages Odds and sods You bought your lifestyle From an indie mag Owned by Conde Nasty You’re a fully paid up member of the alternocrats Oh your badge of office Worn so low it scuffs your shiny new shoes Ooh it’s a risky business Your insurance policy Mitigates against disaster Should something untoward occur You can always claim indifference to experience Can’t someone else do that on your behalf? It’s a simple business Don’t complicate matters With self doubt or indecision Pick a number from one to seven if this is Tuesday Then this must be Yoga And you can get a bag all the way from India For that kit An exact fit Top to toe, god to go An exact fit Top to toe, your god to go As Martin Amis said “Gob less, gob less Gob less, gob less” I’ll try, I’ll try. It’s a risky business, It’s a risky business It’s a risky business, It’s a risky business It’s a risky business It’s a risky - business Words and Music © 2006 Simon Scardanelli/Musica Scardanelli

It's Only Life This place is full of liars Vagabonds and thieves They’ll play you for a sucker Try to bring you to your knees But me I’m looking forward To taking my revenge A tasty dish best served ice cold. This world is full of ghosties And things I’ve never seen There’s something in the water There’s something in the sea It’s all about big business It’s all about the dosh And Blair and Bush’s cronies make me really fucking cross It’s only life It’s only life It’s only life Get used to it It’s only life It’s only life It’s only life You’re living My life is full of problems Ten times worse than yours Don’t come to me with hard luck tales Self pity’s so perverse It’s not about religion It’s all about belief And if you lose your sense of humour you’ll be living on the street You’re funny, and you’re stupid You’re stupid and you’re sick You run around with head in hands and Faces like a stick And every one of you should know The reason that you fail Your bellyaching laughter’s like The rattle of a jail. TAKE YOUR HAND AWAY Where’s the blame to lie? One of us is falling down And there is no place on earth For a King without a crown When the world was young You and I we’d paint it bright Now there is no you in fun And the world’s turned black and white Take your hand away from me Close those laughing eyes Take your hand away I can do this on my own Where’s the promised land? Drifted by and faded grey Where’s the golden time we planned? Now the rains are here to stay Take your hand away from me Close those laughing eyes don’t mock me Take your hand away I can do this on my own Take your hand away from me Close those laughing Take your hand away I can do this on my own Words & Music © 2006 Simon Scardanelli/Musica Scardanelli

about

"You never know what is lurking around That Dangerous Sparkle’s dark corner, but whatever it is will always shock and surprise. Scardanelli is always prepared to take a risk, and we should all hope that it is this experimentation that is the future of British singer/songwriters.
